The Whitehead name has deep roots when it comes to providing exceptional care and service. Dr. Whitehead is the fourth generation delivering care to South Carolinians! Although he is the first orthodontist in his family, his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all physicians. His great-grandfather began practicing in 1892. In addition, his maternal grandfather and great-grandfather were local pharmacists.
Dr. James D. Whitehead has been practicing orthodontics in the Lexington area for more than a decade. A South Carolina native, he received his BS from Clemson University, and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD) from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Whitehead completed his residency in orthodontics at the Medical College of Georgia, where he earned his certificate of specialization, as well as his MS in oral biology. Dr. Whitehead regularly attends continuing education meetings and courses that keep him abreast of the latest developments in technology and orthodontic care. He holds active memberships to local, state and national dental and orthodontic organizations, including the South Carolina Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Whitehead is an avid sportsman, and enjoys spending time with his wife, Crissy, and their three sons.

I got braces here years ago when I was just a kid, here I am 28 years old up here getting a new retainer and the Customer service and professionalism has not fell off one single bit, I would recommend anyone needing braces or not sure if you do or not to come give this place a try. Very good atmosphere and not the normal clinical setting vibe!!!

Dr Whitehead and his team are remarkable! They are very accommodating when scheduling appointments, always prompt and professional and Dr Whitehead always explains what he is doing and what needed to be done at each appointment. Dr. Whitehead saw our daughter for over crowding issues and braces starting when she was in 2nd grade. He did a marvelous job. Our daughter is now a college graduate and was in today to repair her retainer. Dr. Whitehead and his staff have consistently provided great care and professional friendly service. Nice seeing after not being here for a few years nothing has changed.

My teenage son is a patient of Dr. Whitehead, and I cannot say anything but positive things about the doctor and his staff. Scheduling is easy to work with if you need to reschedule, and billing/insurance has been great when filing double insurance and taking payments for two sets of parents. My son still has over a year to go with his braces, but it is incredible how much has changed in a year and a few months.

The people here are amazing!I am 29 and pregnant with my 4th child and have been in braces since 2019 back from WA state. I was in braces from back in my home state untouched for 1.5 years and it was hurting and causing so many problems.. I went to 2 other consultations before settling on whitehead. The first one wanted way too much money down and for the braces, and they were going to use the same brackets I already had on! The second one was a cheaper corporate place and they seemed pretty quick and the plan didn’t seem very good there. I didn’t want to go with another corporate office since that is who messed up my teeth originally.The consultation went so well and I asked to get my braces off that day and they made it work! They gave me a clear retainer the same day and said when I’m ready to get back into braces, they already have my contracts signed. I love this office! Highly recommend for quality care!

My baby got braces this morning and he did fantastic!! I highly recommend Whitehead Orthodontics!! We were enthralled with how efficient and kind-hearted all of the staff were. Furthermore, the office is absolutely gorgeous and super clean!! I’m overjoyed to experience my son’s braces journey with Dr. Whitehead and his staff.

These people took my braces off and grinded my enamel thin while removing the glue adhesive, causing permanent lifelong enamel damage on 6 of my teeth. Do NOT risk it!! Their malpractice caused me to pay for tooth bonding that needs to be kept up and paid for for the rest of my life! I am extremely distraught that 6 of my front teeth are forever damaged, prone to stains, and cause sensitivity and pain to cold and hot food and sweets. My procedure is very expensive and i had just graduated highschool, this sets me back so far if i had any chance of paying for college.

Both my daughter and I have gotten Invisalign from Dr. Whitehead and have been very pleased with their professionalism and amount of care they take with each and every patient. My daughter loves the point system where she can earn points to use toward gift cards to some of her favorite stores. It’s such a great incentive. The staff is always so friendly and you can tell it’s a happy work environment.

When I broke my retainer this last weekend, I called Dr. Whitehead’s office on Friday morning (when they were closed) and left a voicemail about needing a new one. A staff member called me back first thing on Monday morning and scheduled me for an appointment for the same day. When I came in for my appointment one of the staff members that had worked with me several years ago when I got my braces done came out to say hi and ask me how I was doing. Victoria remembered enough about my situation to ask me specific questions, which I really appreciated and I was able to pick up my new retainer that afternoon.

I have 4 daughters who have required braces. Two of them (twins) have used Dr. Whitehead and we have had a couple of issues. First of all, Dr. Whitehead’s office made a couple of errors recording my payments properly, requiring me to do a fair amount of work providing proof of payment and following up. Further, my dentist recommended that I call Dr. Whitehead about some molars that had not come in for each of my twins which may nor may not require additional work. I have made 2 phone calls over the last 3-4 weeks to Dr. Whitehead and have yet to receive a return phone call. Whether the molars will be an issue in the future or not, time will tell, but apparently Dr. Whitehead does not seem to want to discuss it. Meanwhile, there are other options in Lexington for orthodontics (namely, Dr. Hines) and given the better experience we’ve had with the other orthadontist over Dr. Whiitehead, I would not recommend using Dr. Whitehead.

At my very first consult I was so embarrassed having to get braces as an adult. Dr. Whitehead and his team made my experience so pleasant and made me feel so at ease with my journey. It doesn’t matter how old you are, everyone deserves a beautiful smile. I couldn’t have chosen a better practice for my care. Thank you so much Dr. Whitehead and staff! My experience as an adult with braces was a breeze with Dr. Whitehead and team! I had braces in the 80’s as a teen, having no idea back then that my teeth could change over the decades to a point that I would want/need to straighten them once again. Braces and retainers are completely different today, much improved and more comfortable from my first experience as a NC teen. Dr. Whitehead was excellent from our first consult in explaining the process. Appointments were smooth, quick, and always timely to accommodate my busy schedule. Very comfortable office environment and friendly staff! Both of our teens are also in braces treatment here and doing well. My braces are now off, and with the permanent bottom retainer he placed and comfortable clear retainer I wear nightly, my teeth will not move again! I love the results and so happy I did this! Whitehead Orthodontics has been good to our family! Not only is it a great practice with knowledgeable, skilled staff, they have excellent customer service. The business side of the office has women who are also very personable and accommodating. The waiting area is comfortable and appointments run efficiently and quickly. Aside from his skills as a great Orthodontist, Dr. Whitehead, himself, is very friendly and genuine. Our oldest got his braces here and when it was time for our next child to get braces, we didn’t think to go anywhere else.

Best experience, my family has had 3 other people also get braces here. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. The office is run very smoothly and you’ll never wait long for an appointment. Even after getting your braces off Dr Whitehead and his staff is always available. Recently I went to the dentist for a cleaning and they broke part of my permanent retainer and I called Dr Whitehead’s office and they fixed it quickly and perfectly!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Whitehead and his staff!!!! It’s not often you find an office where you can tell without a doubt that everyone loves their job. They treat us like we are family every time we walk in the door or call on the phone. They are very accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable, professional and extremely efficient. Always smooth operations with no wait times. Both of their offices offer the latest technology in a modern teen-friendly atmosphere.
